About College
The College of Agriculture, Gadchiroli, Dr. PDKV, Akola came into existence from Academic year -2009-10 by the Act of the Maharashtra State Legislature, entitled “The Agricultural University Act, 2009”. However, the College of Agriculture, Gadchiroli became operational under the umbrella of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola for facilitating the sustainable and accelerated development of Agriculture and its education in the naxal affected tribal dominated Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra.
The College of Agriculture, Gadchiroli is the primary and the principal instrumentality of the Gadchiroli district in providing human resources, skills and technology, required for the sustainable development of its Agriculture, defined broadly encompassing all production activities based on land and water, mechanization including crop production, forestry and co-operatives by conducting, interfacing and integrating education, research and extension in these spheres of economic endeavor. Remarkably Tribal Development Department has funded this College for initially for 5 years on condition that 80 % of the seats were reserved for ST community only. This rule is strictly followed in all the admissions of this College. The College of Agriculture, Gadchiroli offers graduation degree in Agriculture i.e. B.Sc. (Agriculture) till date and onwards called B.Sc. (Hons.) in Agriculture discipline.
It is the constituent College of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola under the dynamic leadership of Dr. V.M. Bhale, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr P.D.K.V. Akola. Presently, the college is headed by Dr. S. B. Amarshettiwar, Associate Dean. The intake capacity of college is 64 students per year. Presently College has ten departments and total strength of faculty is 31 (18 Teaching and 13 Non teaching) against 80 (27 Teaching and 43 Non teaching) posts sanctioned. Modern laboratory facilities have been provided for imparting effective practical training to students. College is having specious and beautiful building along with instructional farm of 40 hectare land.
Academic Programmes
Under Graduate Programme:
Common rules and regulations for admission to various degree programmes in State Agricultural Universities have been formulated. The new course curriculum of B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture has been formulated and implemented since 2017-18 comprises 8 semesters with credit load of 184 for students with non remedial course and 186 for students with remedial course. For greater skill, entrepreneurship development and situation oriented learning experience in rural areas the student READY programme for fourth year students is been implemented. Eligibility for the course is XII standard science passed in 10+2 pattern from Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with optional subject Mathematics. Presently, the intake capacity of the UG programme is 64. The admission process is centralized and carried out by MCAER, Pune. The Common Entrance Test is been conducted every year. The 70 % Marks obtained in CET and 30 % Marks obtained in HSSC are considered for the merit assessment along with the weightage for agricultural land holders, landless agricultural labours etc.

Boys Hostel: Speciously built three floor Boys hostel with 41 rooms with the capacity to accommodate 82 students is available. The recreation hall with TV is available for recreation of the students. Separate Mess building has been built for the student’s food with facility of cool and safe drinking water.
Girls Hostel: The three floored specious 41 rooms are available for the accommodation of 82 girls in the Girls hostel with facility of recreation and mess. The well aerated and protected environment is provided in the campus with facility of the volleyball ground.

Educational Tours
The educational tours for B.Sc. (Agri.) students are arranged every year. The aim of the educational tours is to provide platform for the students to get acquainted with the practical knowledge and aspects of agriculture and allied sectors in other parts of country.
Research Activities
The faculty with responsibilities of teaching and extension work spares comparatively less period for research activity. This is mainly because teachers allow most of their time for teaching. However, they are involved in some basic research with the help of PG students from respective disciplines.
Extension Activities and Achievements
Almost all the teachers of the college actively participate in the training, Annual Krishi Melawa, Krishi Charcha Satra and Krishi Din organized by the college and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. The teachers are actively involved in the extension activities by visiting the farmers field. In addition to their own duties the teachers have given radio talks, TV programme and published popular articles for the benefit of the farming community
