It is the main centres for weed research at State level. Earlier it was a volunteer centre functioning in the Department of Agronomy, Dr. PDKV, Akola since 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div><a name=\"objective\"><\/a><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium; color: #993366;\">Agro Climatic Information<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Vidarbha region of Maharashtra state is mostly characterized by dryland farming. The climatic conditions of this region can be broadly described as semi-arid. The jurisdiction of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth is entire Vidarbha region. The region comprises of eleven districts viz. Buldana, Akola, Washim, Amravati, Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Assured rainfall <em>kharif<\/em> (Monsoon-June-September) crop zone (ARK) comprises of Buldana, Akola, Washim, Amravati (excluding Warud and Dhamangaon tahsil) and part of Yavatmal (Pusad and Darwha tahsils) district. Its average rainfall is 693 mm distributed in 46 rainy days. July is the most wet month with 204 mm average monthly rainfall. It is essentially a <em>kharif<\/em> crop area with predominance of cotton and <em>kharif<\/em> sorghum. These two crops occupy more than 70% of the area. Among pulses udid, mung and pigeonpea in <em>kharif<\/em> and chickpea in <em>rabi<\/em> (Winter-October-January) are grown on considerably large area.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Moderate Rainfall Zone (MR) is spread over Yavatmal (except Pusad and Darwha tahsil); Nagpur (except Bhiwapur and part of Umred tahsil); Wardha and Chandrapur (Warora, Rajura tahsil) districts. Average annual rainfall is 1133 mm distributed in 59 rainy days. Maximum monthly average rainfall (323 mm) is received in 16 rainy days in July. Cotton, sorghum and pigeonpea are major <em>kharif<\/em> crops in this zone. Rabi sorghum is grown in Warora, Rajura and Ramtek tahsil. Mung, udid and Chickpea are grown all over the zone.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">High Rainfall Zone (HR) comprises of Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, (excluding Rajura and Warora tahsil), Gadchiroli and Nagpur (Bhiwapur and part of Umred tahsil) districts. Annual rainfall ranges from 1260 mm on western side of the zone to 1700 mm on a far eastern side. Average total annual rainfall is 1402 mm with 61 rainy days. Rainy season is from June to September. However, few showers (about 50 to 60 mm) are obtained in October, which are favourable for <em>rabi<\/em> pulses. It is predominantly a paddy growing area in <em>kharif<\/em> and most of the <em>rabi <\/em>area is under pulses such as chickpea, mung, udid, lathyrus, lentil, dolichos bean etc. Majority of them are under <em>utera<\/em> condition in which lathyrus is predominant.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Infrastructure Facilities <\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Five hectare of land and field laboratory.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Developed analytical laboratory.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Developed weed museum.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>Zygrogramma<\/em> beetle rearing unit.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><a name=\"research-act\"><\/a><\/div>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: medium;\">Research Activities \/ Achievements<\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Ongoing Research Work<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">To study weed dynamics, crop growth and productivity of different crops and cropping systems with different weed management practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">To study the effect of fertigation and weed management practices on crop growth and yield of different cropping system.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">To study the non-chemical methods of weed management in an organic cotton-chickpea cropping system.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">To study the effect of different herbicides on <em>cuscuta<\/em> in soybean+pigeonpea intercropping system<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Research Achievements<\/span> <\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Application of imazethapyr+ imazomox 70% WG (Ready-mix) @ 70 g a.i.\/ha as post-emergence (PoE) at 20 days after sowing (DAS) was effective and economical treatment in groundnut.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Application of imazethapyr + imazamox 70% WG (Ready-mix) @ 70 g a.i.\/ha as PoE at 15 DAS was the most effective and remunerative in soybean.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">For effective weed management application of clodinafop-popargyl 15% + metsulfuron methyl 1% WP (Ready-mix) @ 60 + 4 g a.i.\/ha as POE at 35 DAS was recommended in wheat.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">In cotton application of pendimethalin 30% EC 1000 g a.i.\/ha as pre-emergence (PE) (within 48 Hrs after sowing) followed by directed spray (by using protective shield) of non-selective herbicide paraquat dichloride 24% SL @ 60 g a.i.\/ha as PoE at 45 DAS is recommended.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">For effective weed management in sole soybean, application of propaquizafop 2.5% + imazethapyr 3.75% ME (Ready-mix) @ 125 g a.i.\/ha as post-emergence 21 DAS.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>OR<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Application of diclosulam 84% WDG @ 26 g a.i.\/ ha as pre-emergence (PE) (within 48 Hrs after sowing) is recommended in sole soybean.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">In Maize application of atrazine 50% WP @ 500 g a.i.\/ha as PE followed by application of tembotrione 34.4% SC @ 120 g a.i.\/ha as post emergence at 20 DAS were the most effective and remunerative.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">In turmeric application of pendimethalin 1000 g ai\/ha or metribuzin 70% WP @ 70 g ai\/ha or atrazine 750 g ai\/ha as PE at 0-5 DAP followed by straw mulch 10 t \/ ha (10 DAP) <em>fb<\/em> one HW (75 DAP) was found effective in controlling weeds with higher yield and monetary returns<strong>. (Research Findings)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Under fertigation in maize for higher grain yield, effective weed management and net returns it is recommended to apply 125 per cent recommended dose of nitrogen and potassium (150 kg N &amp; 75 kg K<sub>2<\/sub>O) in five splits through drip and phosphorous (75 kg P<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>5<\/sub>) as basal application.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">For effective weed management and higher net returns of maize it is recommended to apply atrazine 50% WP @ 750 g a.i.\/ha as PE followed by application of topramezone 33.6% SC @ 25.2 g a.i.\/ha as PoE at 25 DAS.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Application of diclosulam 84% WDG @ 26 g a.i.\/ha as PE (within 48 Hrs after sowing) followed by propaquizafop 2.5% + imazethapyr 3.75% ME (Ready-mix) @ 125 g a.i.\/ha as POE at 20 DAS<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>OR<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Diclosulam 84% WDG @ 26 g a.i.\/ha as PE (within 48 Hrs after sowing) followed by quizalofop ethyl 7.5% + imazethapyr 15%, 98.43 g a.i.\/ha as PoE at 25 DAS recorded higher pod yield and net returns of groundnut.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><a name=\"resreco\"><\/a><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;
