Directorate of Research
The Research wing of the University is headed by the Director of Research and is the monitoring authority for research activities of the University. The University has around one thousand trained scientific, technical and supporting staff engaged in research activities undertaken over 4,000 hectares at the main campus and other research stations. Concrete Crop Improvement programmes through breeding in crops like Cotton, Sorghum, Paddy, Pulses, Groundnut and Wheat are regular features of the Research Programme besides developmental work in the fields like Dry Land Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Forestry and Fishery.
At present, 26 All-India Co-ordinated projects and 20 ad-hoc schemes are under operation besides 31 Non Plan with the assistance from the State Government. The university has 3509.16 ha. of land under cultivation spread over 18 research stations located in 11 districts of Vidarbha Region in Maharashtra state.
Function of the Directorate
Monitoring authority for research activities of the research projects sponsored by University, ICAR and other Govt. and Non-Govt. agencies. Breeder seed production and maintenance for various crops. Monitoring and developmental activities of the farms of main campus and sub centers. Establishment of research linkages with the ICAR, SAUs and other funding agencies. To motivate the scientists for undertaking research projects from Government, Semi-Government and other private agencies. Recommendation of research findings for the welfare of scientific as well as farming community. To undertake collaborative research programmes with various research/academic institutes.
