Experience:
Dr. M.B. Nagdeve has made significant contribution to agricultural research in Agriculture Engineering and developed a school of thought on nutrition of crops and cropping systems and soil quality sustenance under intensive agriculture in black soils and built a team of researchers which led to several recommendations beneficial for sustainable agricultural production in India. He has worked and successfully completed several institutional research projects besides important externally funded ad hoc research projects.
Developed contour bandhies for rice cultivation in East Vidarbha zone of Maharshtra. Evaluated conservation measures, ‘Continuous Contour Trenches’ CCT using hydrological water balance modeling. Developed a computer programme CCT_designer. Planning of watershed has been done using remote sensing and GIS. Impact assessment of partial/critical areas and full saturation concept on hydrological behavior of watershed was carried out. Evaluated impact of watershed development programme on groundwater recharge. Diagnosed Institutional Constraints for new policy paradigms of watershed management programme. Since, last ten years working as Chief Scientist, AICRP for Dryland Agriculture, Akola Centre. Harvesting and recycling of runoff water by constructing farm ponds at different locations was done for sustainable agriculture. Tillage and nutrient management research for resource conservation and improving soil quality and stress management studies under contingency situation in different standing crops were carried out. Involved in irrigation management, maintenance and operation of the University irrigation project. implemented the NICRA project on University farm as well as on the farmer’s field at Warkhed Tah. Barshitakli Dist. Akola. During last two years, the water conservation work of Nala widending and deeping with incorporation of CNBs are under progress by converging different schemes at Warkhed and Kajaleshwar under ‘Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan’ of Maharashtra State in collaboration of the Collector, Akola. So far, 2.5 km of nalla with 5 CNBs have been covered and about 10,000 Cum of water is conserved in this drainage line. During the tenure of as Chief Scientist the research farm is covered in ideal research farm which is appreciated by the all concerned.
Imparted training to farmers, NGO’s, extension officers regarding in-situ soil and water conservation measures for sustainable agriculture. Demonstrated the different techniques of in-situ soil and water conservation to various extension activists. Carried out research on Natural Resource Management, groundwater recharge, conservation agriculture, command area development, micro-watershed planning, evaluation of different SWC structures.
